Workshop Overview:
Rapidly accumulating evidence suggests that various psychedelic compounds such as ketamine, MDMA, psilocybin, LSD, DMT, 5-MeO-DMT, and ibogaine have therapeutic potential and may work by creating a profound non-ordinary state of consciousness or by inducing neuroplastic effects. To date, the vast majority of recent medical research demonstrating safety or benefits has focused on administration of a single compound given at a moderate dose. However, it is common for people to use psychedelics in combinations in recreational settings or underground therapeutic environments.
This stark gap between research and use pattern is worthy of careful attention. On the one hand, the use of more than one psychedelic in a ‘stack’ or combination may carry potential for a profound experience and enhanced neuroplastic effects while still carrying an acceptable safety profile. However, other combinations may be dangerous or raise physical and psychological risks significantly. Moreover, the existing medical research has yet to study combinations of psychedelics with much detail or rigor and even combinations with lower risk profiles may be overwhelming or unnecessary for some people to gain the insights or benefits they’re seeking.
In this webinar event, we’ll begin by exploring possible risks, benefits, and rationales of using various psychedelics in combination. Then we’ll examine popularly used psychedelics and elements of their pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic profiles that logically inform risk profiles when considering them in combination. Finally, we’ll thoughtfully discuss some elements that could help reduce potential harms and optimize experiences in people that choose to use combinations of psychedelics.
Our formal learning objectives are to:
- Describe the pros and cons of considering combinations or sequences of psychedelics
- Identify combinations of psychedelics with lower and higher risk profiles
- Outline criteria and practices that could be used to reduce harm in people considering using combinations of psychedelics
Who Should Attend
This webinar is designed for medical professionals, psychedelic facilitators, integration coaches, therapists, retreat center staff, psychonauts and others involved in psychedelic care or use who wish to deepen their understanding of psychedelic combinations.
